Spring Cocktail Party

On Wednesday June 3 the Spring Cocktail party took place at the offices of A.G. Bisste & Co. in Rowayton, CT. About 25 members attended the event, which was preceeded by a Board meeting. The 2009 Skier of the Year award was presented posthumously to Lars & Marit Radberg, whose dedication to the club over many decades was appreciated by all who knew them. Please see the Proclamation for more details.

Two important dates were set during the board meeting:

  • Crayfish Party at Skibo September 12, 2009
  • Annual Club Meeting October 6, 2009. Location to be determined

Spring Cleaning Weekend

On May 16 & 17, Skibo underwent a serious spring cleaning! Five members and one amazing friend spent the weekend making your lodge a neater, cleaner, more pleasant place to stay. The short list of major improvements are:

  • All Windows on main level washed inside and out
  • Old freezer removed from the pantry
  • Pantry emptied & cleaned. No more near-empty bottles taking up space
  • New Gas Grill set up at the end of the front deck
  • Pool opened and cleaned
  • Linen Closet organized & older linens discarded
  • Bed pads & pillows washed / replaced
  • Sauna cleaned
  • Furniture repaired

Many thanks to the team who dodged / entertained four small children and still accomplished so much. Check out some of the amazing results in pictures from the weekend.

About the Swedish Ski Club

The Swedish Ski Club has some 200 members throughout the Northeast, who all share enthusiasm for winter sports and Scandinavian culture. The club organizes and participates in ski competitions in New England, and is represented in Vasaloppet in Sweden.

In Bondville, Vermont, about four hours drive from New York City, the Swedish Ski Club has a lodge big enough to accommodate almost 40 people. The lodge is about 15 minutes from Stratton, Bromley & Magic Mountains. Killington is 50 minutes away. Okemo and Mount Snow are also a short drive away.

The lodge has a sauna, living rooms, kitchen and dining area, and space to prepare skis for cross country as well as downhill. In the summer visitors can enjoy our pool after enjoying a day golfing, horeseback riding, shopping in nearby Manchester, or enjoying Bromley's alpine slide.

What is really special about the SSC is not so much the quaint, comfortable lodge or the convenient and beautiful location. It's the history and the sense of community that generations of families have experienced together. This was very well expressed by Skeff Bisset in his short story, You Can Go Home Again.
