You Can Go Home Again… To The SSC!From our adolescent years we can all appreciate how much fun we recall enjoying the freedoms that BoHus and Skibo provided us. After a lengthy day of skiing or alpine-slide, the routine was to get back to the house and collectively navigate the evening’s meal ritual. Invariably the children (us) could hardly wait – our energies being replenished –we would eat and fly off to play. The parents would congregate in the living room over drinks and cheeses or some unique dish that no one had yet experienced but were eager to try. For me that was 25+ years ago. I had always made trips up to the club during that time and celebrated the new house when the club acquired it. Now the tradition continues at Skibo. I was married and moved back up here (CT) from Florida with my wife and three children. The first thing we did was to sign up for the SSC. Megan, my wife, did not know what it was really all about (you have to experience it to enjoy it) but I assured her she and the kids would love it. During my family’s first trip up four years ago, I was explaining to Megan the idiosyncrasies, rules, things to do, traditions and experiences. Like any mom, Megan was concerned for our 2-year old twin daughters and the new environment and navigating such a big house. I proceeded to tell her the story that whenever Fred and Åsa took us up to the club there would always be a young girl or girls roughly ages 12-14 that either my younger sisters would socially attach to or vice versa. In other words, the club came with built-in baby sitters/playmates. These were the daughter’s of other members whom the parents all knew. Frequently in those circumstances “back then” Sture Lindin’s daughter Anna instantly became a defacto au pair to Alexandra, Allison and Kristina (my younger sisters) and an instant weekend friendship was born. With this Megan was somewhat assured but I suspect remained moderately skeptical. Upon our arrival at BoHus, I resigned to the traditional Dad duty of unloading the van while Megan and the kids explored and found our room. That night the various families arrived and of course, a young girl roughly 12-years old found herself playing with Katie and Lexi. As a matter of fact they were together most of the weekend when in the house. Why do I share this story? The young lady that my daughter’s had so much fun playing with (and allowed Megan and I to enjoy the other parents company in the living room next to the fire enjoying wine and cheese) was the daughter of Anna Lindin!
