2006 SSC Cross Country Skiing Championship RESULTS

CONDITIONS: Temp. ab -1C; Dry snow; thin layer on top of old; Track & pole grip reasonably firm; Partly cloudy; no”dagsmeja”(sun-thaw). Waxing easy.
RACE START: First start 10.30 AM; 1 min. intervals.
COURSE(S): Ab. 3.5 KM starting at the stone wall corner of the field west of the tennis courts, looping towards and along the road into the opposite woods, back on to the field and to a longer wood loop, and to a final loop on the field to the FINISH. Men raced two laps; women one; This was a type of one track non-groomed course, yet rather easy, and by the longer field loops onlookers could watch the racers, who in turn could keep track of each others.

BIRGIR NILSEN RETAINS HIS CROWN
Birgir, challenged also this year by Anders Jahn, retains his championship in a tight race ahead by a mere 11 seconds. Anders, admitting defeat, felt that he simply ran out of track; a few hundred meters longer course might have enabled him to catch the champion. A quick study of the lap times gives an interesting view on such speculation. Birgir slowed considerably, compared to Anders, on the second lap. Former champion Carl J, in somewhat of a come-back took the Bronze. X/C ski novice Christian B did very well for a first time racer, having been on cross country skis only a couple of times. Another newcomer Derek Jonsson showed great promise.
Last year’s Ladies’ Champion Ann Jochnick could easily fend off a challenge from Petra J. also a former champion. Petra hadn’t had time to regain her stamina completely after the birth of baby Sigrid. But she will, she said. Good to see Nina Jonsson back competing again.
The Junior boys held their positions from last year, with Liam N number one and Brother Ingmar number two. Young girls, Annika J and Ella N finished an abbreviated course together in fine style.
As a general comment, although we were 18 racers competing, the club should be able to do better. Some of the Alpine racers of Saturday’s down hill race skipped this event. Maybe they shouldn’t have!
