2007 SSC Cross Country Skiing Championship RESULTSFebruary 10 & 11, 2007 at Skibo CONDITIONS and COURSE: Temp. -1C, dry new snow 6” deep. Sunny, but no “thaw”. Start at southeastern corner of the large field south of the “road”, looping and entering the woods at the northwestern corner of the field, on SSC trails reentering the field twice, before finishing in a short loop coming out back on the field from the pond area. Length > 4K. The men skied two laps; the ladies one lap. ANDERS JAHN REGAINS THE TITLE. Anders was really never challenged. His 1st lap time of 17 min 34 secs was almost 1.5’ faster than brother Carl’s time of 19’. And at 36’, 22” he finished almost 3’ ahead. Chris Jochnick took the Bronze, showing great improvement from previous years, ahead of father Adolf, who in turn got a fine revenge on Tom J from two years ago. It was noticeable how much other skiers had improved speed, stamina, and style compared to last years’ races. Justin, Christian, and Pelle showed great advances, and may all cause trouble for the Jahn brothers next year, at which time Birgir will hopefully join in again. And may be even Claes and Rolf! And Matt showed that he has overcome most of the aftermath of his operations. Way to go! ANN JOCHNICK RETAINS CROWN. Ann earned the Gold also this year. She held off Petra Eldh (Jahn), but not with the same margin as last year. Ali J took the Bronze. This year some of the senior Ladies declined to race, but were indeed very helpful in time keeping, and comforting tired losers – and winners.
S U N D A Y R E L A Y S This was a new event; a relay race between teams of two members. We paired the best time of the individual races with the slowest time, men and Ladies mixed. The teams mass started. Great fun and hilarious confusion all around. The course seemed a minute faster than the day before. Predictably the teams of the “average” times of the day before “dominated”. Chris Jochnick & Petra won easy, with Ann & Christian taking Silver, and Pelle & Justin the Bronze.
C H I L D R E N S’ RACE. There was only one teenager at Skibo this year. Rebecca skied valiantly with the Ladies. But there were plenty of children, ten and much younger. A fun race was arranged in loops on the field on Sunday with many participants, the youngest 3.5 years old. Our “successors” were doing just fine, and seemed to enjoy themselves. WINNERS AND LOSERS were celebrated alike with great enthusiasm at the Saturday dinner (and Sunday lunch), many winning Marabou Chocolate, and with ensuing lively dancing and Hip Hop lessons among the elders as well as the very young. A great weekend event of SSC fun and camaraderie. - Tom F. Jahn, SSC Cross Country Ski Chairman. |
